The European Foundation for Democracy is delighted to invite you to this Policy Dialogue, in partnership with the European Policy Centre.

Terrorist attacks have serious consequences for the families of the victims who lost their lives, the survivors who were wounded and those that have witnessed the attack. Their lives are impacted and changed forever.

While the victims of terrorist attacks and their families find themselves in the spotlight in the aftermath of an attack, little is known about what happens in the following weeks, months and years. Prompt, efficient assistance and support from public authorities along with support of frontline practitioners including mental health practitioners and social workers is crucial to help rebuild lives. The work and support of national and European victim associations is also central in this process.

This Policy Dialogue will look at the rights of victims of terrorism and how states can strengthen their national legislation, procedures and practices to better protect and support victims and their families. It will highlight the best practices in place and the key challenges that remain to be tackled.
