DESCRIPTION:Enlightening diagnostic and therapeutic gray zones through the
multidisciplinary approach The Second EHNS Academy Course – Segment 1: Oro
pharynx and Larynx 31st August / 2nd September 2026 Ferrero Foundation Alb
a\, Italy A course providing a comparative analysis of radiological\, surg
ical\, and pathological head and neck anatomy using 3D visualization to im
prove diagnostic work-up and therapeutic planning in head and neck maligna
ncies. Diagnostic and therapeutic gray zones are addressed through multidi
sciplinary discussion of paradigmatic clinical cases\, supporting clinical
decision making guided by shared multidisciplinary expertise.\nCourse Rat
ionale In head and neck oncology\, the growing emphasis on post-treatment
quality of life has driven the development of therapeutic strategies aimed
at reducing morbidity while preserving oncological effectiveness.\nThis e
volution has supported the adoption of minimally invasive surgical and non
-surgical approaches\, particularly in the management of laryngeal and oro
pharyngeal malignancies\, where anatomical complexity and biological heter
ogeneity directly influence clinical outcomes. Sponsored by the EHNS Acade
my\, this second European course - Segment 1: Oropharynx & Larynx - provid
es a comparative analysis of radiological\, surgical\, and pathological an
atomy of these anatomical subsites\, leveraging 3D visualization to enhanc
e diagnostic accuracy and optimize therapeutic strategies. Particular emph
asis is placed on diagnostic and therapeutic gray zones\, which are addres
sed through multidisciplinary discussion of paradigmatic clinical cases\,
promoting clinical decision making guided by shared multidisciplinary expe
rtise.\nThe course is structured into two full daily modules dedicated to
the larynx and the oropharynx\, complemented by a half-day session focused
on cross-disciplinary topics that are common to both anatomical sites and
relevant across specialties. Each full day includes: • Morning sessions f
eaturing radiological anatomy\, pathology-focused symposia on specimen eva
luation\, and selected components of comparative surgical anatomy\, presen
ted using 3D projection • Afternoon sessions dedicated to completing the c
omparative analysis of surgical anatomy through inside-out and outside-in
approaches\, followed by multidisciplinary discussion of diagnostic and th
erapeutic gray zones based on paradigmatic clinical cases.\nSegment 1: Oro
pharynx & Larynx Roberto Maroldi Head and Neck Radiologist Patrizia Morbin
i Pathologist Giovanni Succo Head and Neck Surgeon President EHNS Alessand
ro Vercelli Anatomist All anatomical dissections and surgical demonstratio
ns are captured and broadcast entirely in 3D\, enhancing spatial understan
ding and interdisciplinary integration. This segment is designed for Radio
logists\, Head and Neck Surgeons\, Otolaryngologists\, Maxillofacial Surge
ons\, Neurosurgeons\, Medical and Radiation Oncologists\, Oral and Plastic
Surgeons\, and Pathologists with a specific interest in laryngeal and oro
pharyngeal oncology.\nAnatomical overview of the oropharynx/parapharyngeal
spaces: online preparatory lesson delivered before the meeting Anatomical
overview of the larynx/hypopharynx: online preparatory lesson delivered b
