The Arab Gulf was one of the most dynamic regions in the world in the second half of the twenty-first century, experiencing rapid modernization, rising prosperity and enhanced global importance.

Britain was well aware of the wind of change blowing across the Gulf, and strove to find policies that could help ensure continuity and stability of its protectorate in the context of such transformation.

This presentation looks at the overall British perception of a changing Arab Gulf, and explores the special role of education as a tool used by the British to secure the loyalty and goodwill of Gulf elites and populations, using Kuwait as a case study of the ever-changing states of the region.

To address this topic, the Euro-Gulf Information Centre has invited Dr. Gerald Power,  Senior Fellow at EGIC and lecturer in History at Metropolitan University Prague. His current research project is a study of British cultural diplomacy in the Arab Gulf from the 1950s to the 1970s.

The event will be held at EGIC Headquarters in Via Gregoriana 12, 00187 Roma.
